Sydney Mines 2015, Cape Breton Island –
There’s one more thing scratched off my bucket list, and that was to explore the coastline and dig for fossils. We started the day with a guided tour through the Cape Breton Fossil Centre in Sydney Mines then off on a Field Trip with the museum curator Dr. Stuart Critchley of the fossil rich coastline of the Sydney Coalfield.
Each of us equipped with a hammer and pick, searched and tapped the rocks on the shore to find plants that existed on earth back 270-350 million years ago and preserved in a fossilized form. With our expert guide helping us identifying our treasures and listening to his interesting stories, we were as if in an another place and time. Truly a unique hands-on learning experience!
